In the summer of 2021, we moved from the city center of Amsterdam to an empty plot in Almere Oosterwold. We purchased the 3000m² plot in December 2020 and have since been literally building our house and food forest.
Our house is designed to be the perfect place to live and work while establishing a strong connection with nature. The orientation, window placement, and a large veranda on the southwest side help us stay connected to the outdoors and maximize the benefits of natural elements. The veranda blocks the hot summer sun while allowing the winter sun to warm the house. As with all my projects technology is part of the design.
Sustainability is a core aspect of our design and technological choice. We are utilising geothermal energy to heat and cool the house. This is complemented by other technologies, such as the thermal mass of the concrete floor, a heat recovery system, and natural high-thermal-mass building materials.
